About Therapy

Do you want to make a positive change in your life, by beginning to understand yourself in a different way?

Therapy can support us to explore our feelings and behaviours, relationships, and experiences. It involves noticing and sometimes challenging the ways we think about ourselves, our past, and the situations we find ourselves in.

Over time this new awareness can empower us to be ourselves and to be more resilient to the outside world.

There are different types of therapy, and you are likely to be more suited to some ways of working than others.

Some therapies will focus on a specific issue or situation and some will look at all several aspects of your life. Some therapies focus on looking at the present, the past or the future. Some therapies are more directive, including setting tasks, and some follow your lead. Some therapies are creative and involve music, art or writing.  The techniques a therapist might use during sessions will depend on the type of therapy they practice.

Working with a therapist provides a trusting and supportive space to focus on what’s going on for you. It’s a relationship that will feel unlike any other in your life.

It’s important to find a therapist that you feel able to talk openly to. It’s therefore useful to prepare to find your therapist by thinking about what you need, what type of person you might best connect with and what you need to ask to find a good match.
